Introduction
In today’s fast-paced world, both magnesium deficiency and stress have become prevalent issues that can have long-term health consequences. Extensive research, conducted in preclinical and clinical settings, has explored the interaction between magnesium and key mediators of the physiological stress response, revealing magnesium’s inhibitory role in regulating and transmitting normal stress responses.
Study
Furthermore, several studies examining nutritional aspects have reported low magnesium status in individuals experiencing psychological stress or related symptoms. These findings suggest a potential amplifying effect of stress on magnesium loss, leading to deficiency, and conversely, magnesium deficiency may increase the body’s susceptibility to stress, creating a vicious circle of magnesium and stress. This review takes a fresh look at the concept of the vicious circle between magnesium and stress, first introduced in the early 1990s, in light of recent available data.
