Researching the impact of Natural vs Synthetic Vitamin B-Complex.
A recent pilot study, featured in Oxid Med Cell Longev, delves into the comparison of natural and synthetic Vitamin B-Complex supplements. The study aimed to evaluate the bioavailability and effects of these two variants on aspects such as homocysteine levels, oxidative stress, and antioxidant capacities.
The fascinating study enlisted 30 healthy participants, splitting them into two groups. One group received a natural Vitamin B-Complex supplement (Group N), while the other was given a synthetic variant (Group S). Both groups received their supplements daily, with doses amounting to around 2.5 times the recommended daily intake for a span of six weeks.
The results? Both natural and synthetic Vitamin B-Complex supplements showed an impressive increase in serum levels of all B vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B9, B12) at the end of the supplementation period. A noteworthy reduction in homocysteine levels was observed in Group N, along with an increase in antioxidant capacity.
While both supplement types were found to be similarly bioavailable, some interesting trends emerged from the natural vitamin group. These included sustained effects for cobalamin (Vitamin B12) and endogenous peroxidase activity, and a decrease in homocysteine and oxidative stress levels.
In summary, both natural and synthetic Vitamin B-Complex supplements demonstrated promising results. However, the natural vitamin group did exhibit some unique benefits.
